quick overview of new features and changes

Finally got some free time to blog after a bug squashing marathon

Some new changes about the new site/system which was recoded completely, everything from the distributed file system to the interface

Upload
There are now 3 ways of uploading files to ifile.it:

* Classic Upload is just a big standard upload form, no javascript no flash no progress meter, this is for users with no flash player or using outdated browsers
* Flash Upload is now the main uploader on the main page, as discussed in a previous post new features include:
* * 300MB filesize limit per file not per upload as before :)
* * 50 files per upload (thats quite a crazy amount )
* * Minimum file size of 10KB, this one is new change and to ensure the system doesn't get spammed with small or 0byte files
* * upload queue manager
* * download links are shown as each file is uploaded individualy
* * files are attached to account when logged in
* API upload, a new API is available to make it easy for developers to script uploads, see here for documentation and examples

Download

* the format of temp download tickets changed so now one can derive the original share link from a download link. for example:
* * download ticker url = http://s22.ifile.it/yx7l6pa/4c6q/894925/Desert.jpg
* * share url = http://ifile.it/yx7l6pa
* download tickets are now only valid for the network of the user who issued the ticket, unfortunately people were sharing temp tickets and then contacting support asking why tickets dont work after a day (the word temp should be a clue :) )
* registered and loggedin free members get faster speeds at peak times
* registered and loggedin free members get more concurrent connections
* download tickets are valid for longer period of 24 hours

Browse
* the browser was redesigned completely and split into 2 parts, file browser and folder manager
* 50 files displayed per page as often requested by members
* sorting by name, time uploaded and size
* showing the number of downloads (this counter gets incremented 24 hours after the download finished)
* inline editing of name and descriptions
* unicode filenames and descriptions
* whitespace and uppercase characters in filenames unlike before when underscores woudl replace these
* copy to clipboard icon in the very righthandside column, to copy link to clipboard in one click!
* more often updated stats at bottom such as bandwidth and disk space used

Search
* finally added search to search you filenames and descriptions, this gets updated every few minutes to reflect any changes

User system
* all user functionality is now done over SSL for security
* account verification is optional not compulsory as before
* no CAPTCHA on login so the login details can be saved by browsers

Tools
* updated link checker
* link copier tool, this one is unique as it allows you to copy and attach to your account ifile.it files uploaded by others

there are other little changes here and there, cant think of top of my head

alot behind the screen stuff like files stored in encrypted format on the servers for extra security

alot of changes to interface to reflect feedback received from members

please do contact ifile for any suggestions, they might be implemented sooner or later :)

Cheers

site upgrade in progress

Hello ifile.it users

there is currently a site/system upgrade works in progress

The site and all the servers will be taken offline for few hours (could be alot less depending on how tests go)

while the new ifile.it site and all the ifile.it servers are being upgraded in order to work with the new system thats coming in.

I will keep this blog updated of the progress of the works

Sorry for any disruptions to service, was working hard for the last few days in order to minimise downtime, but to be on safe side the site will be taken down.
